Abstract:Abstract. For the spherical average A1 and the Laplace operator Δ, we study the iterated operator Δ(A₁)^{N} and find the minimal positive integer N to ensure the L1(ℝⁿ) boundedness of Δ(A₁)^{N}. Using a constructive proof, we completely solve a question in E. Belinsky, F. Dai and Z. Ditzian: Multivariate approximating average, J. Approx. Theory, 125 (2003), 85-105. This problem is related to study short random walks in high dimensions originated by Pearson 100 years ago.
